Selector 6

Selector main module
(Phase 2 - Q4 2004)

Feature Benefit
Database Design Designed for headhunters and interim management providers. You deal with People, not candidates. Someone may be a client contact one day and a candidate the next. You deal with Organisations, not just clients. Also you need to keep track of Assignments and Events.

Navigation With Selector you can navigate from a client contact to the client's assignments, to the candidates, then to other assignments, clients and so on, just by following the links.

Document handling Any number of documents can be attached to each person's record. One is identified as the default CV (résumé) and is indexed for full-text searching. Photos, scanned images and PDF files can be attached. An image can flagged as the person's photo.

Old dog, new tricks Find Mr Stephens even if you enter "Stevens". Selector makes intelligent use of such old tricks as well as some fancy new technology.

Usability, usability.
Much thought has gone into design. What's left out is as important as what's there. Hyrax has listened and responded to sophisticated and demanding users over twenty years. Usability is a matter of making choices clear and navigation obvious. This is often a subtle matter. Menus, forms and buttons are clearly thought out and labelled to avoid confusion. Use of space is carefully considered.

Minimal training
Users can start using Selector right away. With a few hours training they can find their way around your company's greatest asset (information) in ways they never dreamed of.

And much more.
This is an inadequate description of what Selector does. I'll add more when I've had another think.

This database was made for searching
(Phase 2 - Q4 2004)

Feature Benefit
Intuitive Say goodbye to brackets and Boolean algebra (ANDs and ORs). You just build up your list of criteria as you would mentally (i.e. a wish-list). Some criteria can have multiple alternatives (e.g. nationality, availability categories).

Get there in one Each criterion can be must-have (essential) or nice-to-have (desirable). Results are shown with best matches first. This often means you need only do one search rather than tinker endlessly with the criteria.

Mix text and relational criteria You can mix relational (database-type) criteria with full-text CV/resume criteria (like an internet search). A powerful combination.

Find near misses Skills and experience use hierarchical classifications. The perfect candidate does not exist; Selector finds the near-misses and includes them in the results. Best overall matches (higher scores) are shown first.

Location, location. Find people within a certain range of a client or assignment. Current users tell us this is tremendously useful.

Repeatable You can go back and revise your search later, though it can be locked to prevent changes. It can be run by other users or made private to yourself. A search can be re-run whenever you wish and if appropriate it can be linked to an assignment.

Quick Search This type of search provides a quick and easy access to the most commonly required criteria: skills/experience, CV/resume text, location and availability.

Full Search
The built-in query builder allows you to construct search criteria by picking from lists. All fields in the database are searchable. No database knowledge required. The query builder is data-driven so it can be quickly customised.
